Should I choose a wood, fiberglass, or steel door?

Each material has its place, and the right choice depends on where the door is going and what matters most to you.

Wood doors offer unmatched natural beauty and customization. Simpson and Glenview both build exceptional wood doors, often the best choice for high-end traditional homes. Wood does require more maintenance and benefits from protection like a covered entry.

Fiberglass doors give you the look of wood with far less upkeep. Brands like ProVia and Therma-Tru make fiberglass doors so realistic that most homeowners can't tell them apart from wood, and they hold up beautifully in harsh weather.

Steel doors are typically the most budget-friendly option and offer strong security and energy efficiency. They're ideal for secondary entries like back doors, and ProVia and Therma-Tru both offer premium steel options that avoid the dented builder-grade look.

How much does a new door cost?

Door costs vary widely because they depend on the type of door, the material, size, finish, hardware, and whether it's new construction or replacement. A simple interior door swap looks very different from a custom front entry or a 16-foot sliding patio system.

The best starting point is a free in-home consultation. We'll look at your opening, talk through your goals, and provide a firm quote that we guarantee for six full months, so you can plan your project without guessing.

 

How long does it take to get my doors after ordering?

Lead times depend on the manufacturer and whether the door is stock or custom. In-stock doors and standard configurations can arrive in a couple of weeks. Custom orders like full entry systems, large sliding doors, or specialty configurations typically take four to twelve weeks depending on the brand and complexity.

We'll give you a realistic lead time estimate at quote, and we keep you updated if anything changes during production.

 

How long does installation take?

Most single-door installations take one day from start to finish, including removal of your old door, installation of the new one, trim work, and final cleanup. Whole-home door projects typically run two to five days depending on scope.

We take our time to get the details right. Our installers are told the same thing on every job: take as long as you need to make it perfect.

 

What kind of warranty do you offer?

Every door we sell comes with the manufacturer's product warranty, and those vary by brand. Marvin, Infinity, Simpson, ProVia, Therma-Tru, and TruStile all offer strong warranties that cover materials and workmanship, with several including limited lifetime coverage.

On top of that, our installation work is backed by our own limited lifetime installation warranty, which means if something goes wrong with how the door was installed, we stand behind it.

 

Are you certified by the manufacturers you carry?

Yes. We're a Marvin Certified Installing Retailer (CIR), which means our installers are factory-trained by Marvin and we have direct access to their technical support and warranty teams. CIR is a designation Marvin reserves for a small number of dealers who consistently meet their standards.

We also work directly with ProVia, Therma-Tru, Simpson, TruStile, Infinity by Marvin, Reeb, and Cavity Sliders, which gives us factory-level product knowledge and support across every brand we sell.

 

Can you get doors in custom sizes?

Absolutely. Most of the manufacturers we carry, including Marvin, Infinity, Simpson, Glenview, ProVia, and TruStile, build doors to order. That means we can accommodate non-standard openings, historic sizes, oversized modern doors, and unusual configurations.

If you're renovating a historic home or designing a new build with unusual proportions, custom sizing is often the right path.

 

Do I need to visit one of your showrooms to purchase doors?

No – we can go right to a consultation at your home if you prefer. We do think starting in our showroom is the best way to begin your process. It is a chance to see the products up close and have a personalized, relaxed conversation about your project. We’ll listen closely to what you want and also answer all your questions.

Many of our manufacturers, including Marvin and Simpson, offer historically accurate profiles, divided lites, and wood species that recreate the look of period-appropriate doors. Do you help with HOA or historic district approval?

Yes. We work regularly with homeowners in historic districts and HOA-governed neighborhoods throughout Northern Virginia and Washington DC. We understand the documentation review boards typically ask for, and we can provide product specifications, elevations, and manufacturer literature to support your application.
